小さな旅：米沢編（A Short Trip to Yonezawa)

2月26日、JR東日本のキュンパスを利用して、お友達と米沢に行って来ました。

On Feb. 26, we traveled to Yonezawa using JR East Japan's special ticket, Kyun Pass, with one of our good friends.

篠ノ井線で長野に出て、そこから北陸新幹線あさまで大宮へ。途中、朝ご飯を兼ねて、サンドイッチを頂きました。

First we headed to Nagano by Shinonoi Line, where we took a Hokuriku Shinkansen, Asama, to Omiya. On the way, we had a sandwich for breakfast.

大宮で東北新幹線から山形新幹線に連結する「つばさ」に乗車で米沢に向かいます。ミニランチとして、平田牧場の串カツとコロッケをエビスビールで頂きました。

In Omiya, we took Tsubasa, which runs as a Tohoku Shinkansen and Yamagata Shinkansen, to Yonezawa. On the way, we had a Kushikatsu and a croquette by Hirata Ranch, together with a can of Yebisu Beer.

山形に入ると雪が一杯で、米沢駅にも雪が積もっていました。

We were surprised to see a lot of snow in Yamagata. There were snow at Yonezawa station, too.

米沢駅についてバスを調べたらあまり回数がないので、上杉神社までタクシーで行きました。

We first checked their bus services to Uesugi Shrine to find it so poor that we took a taxi, after all.

上杉神社では結構雪が残っていて、ところどころ通路にも雪があって、びっくりでした。

There was a quite lot of snow in Uesugi Shrine and some parts of the passage were covered with snow, too, to our surprise.

もとは上杉城があった場所で、神社自体はそれほど大きなものではありませんが、心落ち着く場所でした。

This is where Uesugi Castle used to stand. The shrine itself is not so large but cozy enough.

道が悪くて困った場所も。随分解けたのだそうですが、豪雪地帯なのだなあと思いました。

神社を出ると歩いて酒蔵を目指しました。途中、所々に、古い建物が残っています。

In some parts, it was so icy that we had to be careful of our steps. They said that snow had melt a lot. I guess that they usually have a lot of snow.

Later we walked to the next desitination, enjoying old buildings here and there on the way.

東光の酒蔵：酒博物館を兼ねています。試飲もできました。

Toukou Sake BreweryーIt is a Sake museum, too. We could also taste some of their sake (rice wine).

3月3日を前に、お雛様も飾られていました。

They have a decoration for the doll festival on March 3.

享保雛も飾られていました。

There were very old dolls made in Kyoho Era in Edo Period.

駅に戻る途中、羽黒川を渡ります。この河原では毎年川中島合戦の模擬試合が行われると、行きのタクシーの運転手さんが言っていました。上杉家縁の地、という印象ですね。

Haguro River. The taxi driver on the way taught us that they have a practice of Kawanakajima Battle every year, which reminded us that this place is formerly governed by the house of Uesugi.

駅前にある、「牛肉どまん中」さんの牛肉弁当が美味しいというので、手に入れました。このお弁当は、帰りの北陸新幹線の中で、夕食に頂きました。米沢牛が柔らかくて美味しかったです。

米沢駅売店でラ・フランスのアイスも買いました。これは山形新幹線に乗ったときに頂きました。さっぱりしたシャーベット風アイスでした。

My friend redommended strongly a beef lunch sold in a lunch shop across the station. We got one and had it for our supper on Hokuriku Shinkansen.

We also purchased a cup of La france Iceream at Yonezasa station kiosk, which we had on Yamagata Shinkansen and tasted very fresh.

お土産は東光さんおお酒三本と上杉神社で買ったおかき。

We purchased three bottles of sak at Toko Brewerey and a pack of rice crackers at Uesugi Shrine.
