安曇野にも秋が来た！（At Last, Autumn Arrived in Azumino!)

今年は夏が暑くて国営アルプス安曇野公園にもご無沙汰でしたが、少し気温が落ち着いてきて、9月18日、国営アルプス安曇野公園を訪れました。岩原口近くでは、黄花コスモスが見頃を迎えていました。

This summer was so warm that we did not visit the Alpus Azumino National Government Park at all. Still on Sept. 18, the air was cooled down a little, we went there to see the yellow cosmoses near Iwahara gate.

岩原口の係員の人が穂高口のケイトウも綺麗だというので、少し雨が降り出していましたが、そちらにも立ち寄りました。

A gate clerk at Iwahara Gate informed us that cockscombs near Hotaka gate were blooming, too. Though it started raining a little, we stopped by there.

写真を撮り終えた頃に雷が鳴り出したので、大急ぎで引き返しました。家に着いたところで、土砂降りになりました。良いタイミングでお出かけできました。

When we finished taking photos, we heard the sound of a thunder. We hurried back home and it started raining very hard just after we arrived at home. We were very lucky to see these beaurituful flowers in time.

9月27日は穂高神社の例祭、お船祭りの日でした。友人と出かける予定にしていましたが、友人が風邪で来られなくなったので、れいこさんは取りやめようかと言っていましたが、最高の秋祭り日和ともいえる秋晴れで、僕がせがんででかけました。

On Sept. 27 was Hotaka Shrine's biggest festival, The Boat Festival. We planned to go there with one of our friends but she caught cold and could not come. This is why Reiko first hesitated to go there. Still it turned out to be such a fine autumn day that I begged Reiko to go there.

左：ご近所さんから頂いたお祝いのおこわを食べ、メインの式典が始まる30分以上前には神社に着いていました。

中央：中央の舞台では舞が奉納されていました。

右：僕らはまずお船を見て回りました。

left: One of our neighbors made a special red rice for this festival. We had it for lunch and go to the shrine.

middle:We arrived there more than 30 minutes before the main ceremony began and found the dance of the shrine maidens on the stage.

right: We first checked all the boats at the side of the main building.

まだ式典まで三十分あるというのに、すでに、お船がぶつかる良い場所には三列の人だかりがありました。ですが今年は正面でぶつかり合いを見たかったので、四列目に並びました。

Though there were three lines of people in a good place to see the boats fighting, we wanted to see the fighting close this year and stayed in the forth line there.

中央と左：式典が始まって一時間、やっと式典に参加していた神社関係者が出てきて、各神社の代表が中央の舞台の回りを歩き出しました。このあと、いよいよお船が出てきます。

left: Those who joined the ceremony started entering into the main building.

middle and right: One hour after the ceremony started, the representatives of some shrines came our and walked around the stage. Then at last, the boats started coming in.

最初は子供達が乗った船が出てきます。小さい船が三台、それぞれに中央の舞台を二週して、立ち去ります。小さいとはいえ、動かすのは大変です。

The first three boats are smaller for children. Still they are big enough to require many people's power to move them.

屋根にぶつけないように、皆で力を合わせて船を回します。

They have to move it together with all their might lest a boat should hit a roof.

いよいよ大人船が出てきます。中央の舞台を一周したあと、続く大人船とのぶつかり合いが始まります。

Finally a large ship for adults comes out. It first turned around the stage. Then it started fighting with another large boat coming out.

今年はぶつけ合いが五回も見られました。

そこに至るまで、二時間ほど立ちっぱなしでしたが、待った甲斐のある迫力ある光景でした。

This year, we could see five fightings.

We had to keep standing for two hours but it was woth while with such dramatic fightings just in front of us.

思っていたより時間がかかり、家路についたときは夕陽が沈んでしまっていました。

It took more than we had expected. On the way home, the sun had already set.
