安曇野の冬 (Winter in Azumino)

今年は年始めから寒い日が続きます。その寒さを楽しむために、アイスアートを作ることにしました。寝る前に仕込んでおくと、翌日にはガチガチに凍っています。

It has been very cold since the New Year's Day.

To enjoy the cold weather we made some ice arts.

1月12日、待望の雪が降りました。数センチでしたが、青馬アイスに雪の中を走らせました。

On January 12, we had a little of snow at last. We let blue ice horses run in the snow.

気温が高くて、雪だるまを作るには良い雪でしたが、なにせ雪の量が少ないので、これがやっとの大きさでした。青馬アイスと雪ウマと一緒に、記念撮影。

It was rather warm and the snow was perfect to make a snow man. Yet we did not have enough snow, this was the best we could make. The memorial photo with blue ice horses and snow horses.

1月17日、広島の方では「とんど焼き」と呼ばれている行事は、このあたりでは「三九郎」と呼ばれます。

今年は僕らの西原地区の三九郎に最初から参加しました。火の勢いで風が巻き上がるし、パンパンとすごい音がするので、びっくりしました。消防車と消防団の人たちが安全を計って、火が落ち着いてから、繭玉を焼いて食べました。兄たちには、繭玉の残りと、子供たちに配られたお菓子（僕ももらいました）を持って帰りました。

On January 17, we attended Sankuro Festival, which is called "Tondo Yaki Festival" in Hiroshima, held for the children in our area. This was the first time we attended from the beginning and we were very much surprised by the strong fire wind and the large bursting sounds. No wonder there were a fire engine and fire fighters. The fire fighters took care of the bonfire and told when we could start baking cocoon-shaped cakes. We ate some cakes there but brought back the rest of them together with the treats for the children as the souvenirs for my older brothers.

1月19日は快晴だったので、白鳥湖まで足を延ばしました。

On January 19, it was a fine winter day and we drove to the swan lake.

白鳥を撮影していたら、幸運にも、岸辺にカワセミがいました。

Our main purpose was swans but we were lucky enough to find a kingfisher nearby.

他にも、コチドリもたくさんいました。鴨はもちろん、途中、川鵜の群れが飛来しました。

We saw many Little-bellied Plovers, too. There were certainly many ducks. Meanwhile a group of River Cormorants arrived.

川鵜が飛び立つところではなくて、着水するところです。

This is the time they just arrived.

1 月21日、日本海側に大雪をもたらし続ける、今期最長の寒波がやってきました。僕らのところは雪はないけれど、寒いだけで、バケツに水を張っていると、アイスキャンドルができあがります。

On Januaary 21, what they call the longest cold air mass of this winter arrived. It has brought a lot of snow in the areas along Japan Sea but we did not have snow at the beginning. Only it was very cold. We left the bucketful of water outside at night and made ice candle stands.

アイスリングも作り、夜、両方にろうそくを点しました。

We also made an ice ring, too. And in the evening, we set the candle in them.

翌晩はアイスキャンドルがふたつ増えて、三つになりました。

On the next evening, we had more ice candle stands.

1月25日、前夜、北陸から東北を襲っている雪雲が安曇野にも流れ込み、雪を降らせました。

定規は＋0.5センチなので、4センチの積雪。

この雪はサラサラと吹けば飛ぶような軽い粉雪で、雪が固まらず、手の熱で溶かしながら、やっと小さな雪だるまを作りました。気温がとても低く、作業しているうちに体が冷えてしまうので、途中、暖を取りながらの精一杯の作業でした。

気温が低かったので、朝、家周りからかき集めておいた雪で、夜、かまくらを作ってろうそくを点しました。

かまくらの中は温かそうでしたが、外は風がピューピュー吹いて寒く、僕らが入れるほどの大きなかまくらを作りたかったです。

During the night of January 24, at last the snow clouds floated into Azumino and we had some snow. On the morning of January 25, we found 4cm snow. This snow was very light and too flaffy to make a nice snow man.

What was worse, it was so cold outside, we had to warm ourselves every 15 minutes or so. Therefore, we could not make large snow men though Po the 4th twins and Po the 5th worked together with me.

Later in the evening, we made small holes in the snow piled up in the morning with the snow around the house. It was very windy and cold outside. We wished a larger igloo where we could stay in, too, with the lights.
