バルト三国への旅 5 (A Travel to the Three Baltic Countries 5)

旅程7日目、8月19日、僕らはエストニアのリゾート、パルヌに向けて発ちました。

August 19, the 7th day of our travel, we left Latvia to Parnu in Estonia.

バルト海を左手に見ながら進みます。パルヌに到着すると、まずは昼食。メインはスズキで、悪くはなかったけれど、リガのレストランのスズキのポワレの方が美味しかった。

We drove along the Baltic Sea on the left and after arriving Parnu, we had lunch at first. The main dish was Sea Bass. It was not bad but the pan fried Sea Bass in Riga was better.

ホテルのすぐ後ろがバルト海。気温は12度くらいでしたが、泳いでいる人たちがいました。

The Baltic Sea was just behind the restaurant. It was around 12 degrees centigrate, but we saw some people in the sea.

風が強くて、僕なんか簡単に吹っ飛ばされてどっかに消えてしまいそうでした。でも、そのせいもあって、風紋は綺麗でした。

It was so windy that I was afraid to be blown off and be lost in the air. Still this strong wind has made beautiful patterns on the sand.

かつての市街地に入る門（左）を抜けて、パルヌの旧市街に入ります。

We passed through the old gate of the city to enter the old city area of Parunu.

リゾート地らしい装いの街並です。

The city looked like a typical resort town.

街に貢献した人の銅像（左）などもあり、最後に古い城壁と見張り塔（右）を見て、パルヌを後にしました。

There was a bronze statue of a man who contributed to the town (left).

At the end of the sightseeing, we saw the old wall and the original watchtower of the old city. (right)

パルヌを出ると一路タリンへ向かい、ホテルにチェックイン。このホテルも旧市街地に近く、しかも部屋はゆったりと広くて綺麗でした。シャワーだけでしたが、シャワー室は広く、お湯は熱いお湯がたっぷりでました。ここには二泊しましたが、部屋の掃除にも問題はなかったです。

Leaving Parunu, we directly headed for Talin and checked in our hotel. This hotel is also very close to the old city. What is better, the room was much larger than the former ones and laxurious. There was not a bath tub but the shower room was spacious enough with plenty of nicely hot water. We stayed here for two nights and the room was cleaned properly, too.

この夜は、ミシュランに掲載されている人気店、フォトグラフィスカでの夕食。旧市街を眺めることができる良いロケーションで、味は悪くなかったけど、お肉は硬かった。一番はやはり、リガのスズキのポワレを出してくれたレストランだったと思う。あそこのソースは独特の味わいがあった。

On this night, they had reserved a famous restaurant, Fotografiska, for our dinner. It was a nice restaurant to look over the old city. The dishes were not bad, either, though the beef was a little too chewy. I still thing that the the best dishes were served in the resaturant in Riga, where foods were not only very properly cooked but also their sauces were excellent.

この日は爆焼けでした。

We saw a tremendous sunset on this evening.

旅程8日目、8月20日は、前日の夕焼けが予感させたとおりの、素晴らしい快晴になりました。

僕らはまず、タリンの旧市街地を案内してもらいました。

On August 20, the 8th day of our travel, it turned out to be a very fine day as we had expected from the splendid sunset the day before.

First we were guided to the highland of the old city of Talin.

上段：聖ニコライ教会では塔の上にエレベーターで上がれます。

中段：塔の上からの風景

下段：階段を使うこともできます。教会の絵はイコンでした。

タリン旧市街中央広場

このあとは自由時間で、お昼は自由食でしたが、僕らは添乗員さんが勧めるお店に。行列ができるパンケーキのお店。甘いパンケーキもありましたが、僕らはニシンの酢漬けなどを挟んだものにしました。ビールに良くあった。

After being introduced the basic places of the old town, we had a free time. We were free for lunch, too, and we chose a restaurant recommended by our tour guide, which was quite crowded with a long waiting queue. We ordered a pancake with oiled herring and a glass of beer. The pancake went very well with beer.

マイアスモックカフェ、1864年創業のタリン最古のカフェ兼お菓子屋さんで、ここでKarevのマジパンとマジパン入りチョコを購入。

Maiasmokk cafe established in 1864 is the oldest cafe and sweet shop in Talin and we purchased Kalev's marzipan and chocolate with marzipan for my older brothers there.

左と中央：お隣は古い薬局。

右：聖カトリーヌの小路。タリンで最も美しい通りと言われる。

right: St. Catherine's Passage, which is regarded as the most beautiful massage in Talin.

聖カトリーヌの小路を抜けてヘレマンタワー通りに出、この通り沿いの古い城壁の上を歩く。

所々、板の間になっていて足元が見えるため、れいこさんはびくびくしていた。

Passing through St. Catherine's Passage, we came up to Helleman Tower Street, along which we walked on the old city wall. In some places, they set woods as a passage. As you could see the ground through the woods, Reiko was much scared of those places.

旧市内にはまだ見ていない塔や教会はあったけれど、僕らは満足して引き上げることに。

旧市街入り口のひとつ、ヴィル門。僕らのホテルはここから歩いて10分ほどでした。

帰る途中にはデパートやスーパーが幾つもあって、買い物にとても便利なところでした。

There were still several towers and churches we had not visited but we were already quite satisfied with the sightseeing of the old city and decided to leave.

We left from Viru gate, from where it took only 10 minutes to our hotel.

There were several department stores and super markets on the way to our hotel and it was quite convenient to go shopping.
