バルト三国への旅 4 (A Travel to the Three Baltic Countries 4)

旅行6日目の8月18日、僕らはまず、「バルトのベルサイユ」と呼ばれるラトビアのルンダーレ宮殿を訪れました。

August 18, the 6th day of our travel, we visited Rundale Palace in Latvia, which is called, "Baltic Versailles."

バロック・ロココ様式のルンダーレ宮殿内部。とても広い宮殿の、どの部屋も美しく修復されていました。全部掲載していると写真の数が無限になってしまうので、何枚か適当に選びました。れいこさんはマイセンなどの食器にも興味があったようです。

The inside of Rundale Palace was decorated in Baroque and rococo styles. The palace is so large and there were so many rooms beautifully renovated that I can show you only some sample photos of them. Reiko was much interested in their Meissen dishes and pots.

庭も広大でしたが、花の時期とは少しずれたのか、少し寂しかったです。お天気も、雨こそ降らなかったものの、青空ではなかったし。もっとも、予報は雨だったのだから、僕としては頑張りました。

The garden was also very spacious but looked plain without many flowers. We may have misses their flower season. The weather was not good either, though I managed to keep us from rain. (The weather forcase predicted rain.)

庭は、ミニトレインに乗って観光しました。広いですが、僕はゆったり散策する方が良かったな。

We looked around the large garden on a mini train. It was a really large garden. Yet I wanted to spend some more there and walked around on foot.

写真を撮る時間もなかったというので、トレインを降りたあと少し写真タイムを取ってもらえました。

The train did not stop for a photo at all. So after getting it off, we could have a short time for a photo.

ルンダーレ宮殿の観光を終えてリガ市内に引き返して、ホテル近くのお店で昼食。

Later we went back to Riga to have lunch in a restaurant near the hotel.

その後は自由行動だったので、僕らはその足で旧市街を目指しました。

We had a free time after lunch. We decidec to head for the old city directly from the restaurant.

運河沿いが綺麗な公園になっていて、下の写真のオペラ座を目安に旧市街に入り、そこから聖ペテロ寺院を目指しました。

There was a nice park along the canal, which we crossed to go to the Opera House(the photo below), then to St. Peter's Church.

前日上がれなかった、聖ペテロ教会の塔に上がりました。

僕らのホテルの向かいにあったロシア正教会。この日はかぶり物を持っていなかったので、翌朝、ショールを持って出直した。入ってみたら、何も被っていない観光客も多くて、あまり厳しくはないようだったけど、翌日はミサの様子も見られたから良かった。

On this day, Reiko did not have a showl to wrap her head and did not go in. On the next morning, we went in, Reiko covering her head with a showl. Then we found some female visitors without covering their heads. Maybe the rule was not applied to visitors. Anyway, on the next morning there was going a mass, which was interesting enough for us to be satisfied.

ボート乗り場のそばには、船頭さんが「みんなに愛されている場所」と紹介していた公共トイレもあったのだけど、僕らは一度ホテルまで引き返し、ゆっくりトイレを済ませて出直し、念掛けていたボート旅に参加した。

"The spot most loved by everybody," later our boat captain introduced a public toilet stood near the boat dock but we would rather like to walk back to our hotel, only ten-minute walk from there, and came back to take a boat.

ボートは運河とダウガバ川を使い、旧市街地をぐるりと一周する一時間ほどの旅。

The boat trip was one hour ride along the canal and the Daugava River, around the old town, looking at it from the water front.

ダウガバ川からの旧市街地の景色はとても良かった。船に乗れて港運だった。

I loved to see the old town from the Daugawa River. We were very lucky to take this boat trip.

ボートを下りた時は5時だった。夕食チームは6時集合だったけれど、翌日はエストニアに向かうので、僕らはホテルの部屋食にして、さっさとお風呂に入って、荷物整理をすませて9時にはベッドに。ベッドに入るとき、ホテルの窓から綺麗な夕焼けを見ることができた。ロシア正教会の屋根が輝いていたし、旧市街地の教会のいくつもの尖塔も目を惹いた。

We got off the boat at 5p.m. We were told to gather at 6:00 if we wanted to eat in the hotel restaurant but we chose to eat for ourselves in the room and took a quick shower later to go to bed early, for we were expected to head for the last country of this travel, Estonia. It was around 9 when we went to bed and could see a beautiful sunset from our hotel room with the golden dome of the Russian Orthodox church and other pillers of the churaches in the old city.
