ネパールの旅 3：カトマンズ市内観光 (Travel to Nepal: City Sightseeing in Kathmandu)

3月13日の昼食の後は最初のカトマンズ市内観光でスワヤンプナートに向かいました。

After lunch on March 13, we headed for Swayanbhu as the first place of the city sightseeing in Kathmandu.

山の上にある寺院です。

It is on the top of a mountain.

駐車場からもさらに階段を上って行きます。

One has to climb up many steps from the parking to the temple.

この寺は別名のモンキーテンプルが示すように、たくさんの野生の猿がいます。日本の猿よりもほっそりしています。

This temple's alias is Monkey Temple and we sam monkeys here and there. These monkeys were more slender than Japanese monkeys.

頂上で。正面からは撮影できないそうで、横側から撮影しました。

On the top. We were not allowed to take a picture of the front side of the temple so tha we took this picture at the side of the temple.

真っ正面でなければ写真を撮って良いと言われたので、少し離れたところから撮影。

ダルバール広場の観光をしようとしたとこ、雨が降り出しました。

しかもこの日はホーリー祭（春を告げるお祭りで、色を塗りたくり合います）で、気付くと周りは祭りに盛り上がった群衆で一杯。

When we visited Durbar Square, it started showering. What was more, it fell on Holi Festival to celebrate the arrival of spring and people painted various colors on each other. Before noticing, we were surrounded by the crowd excited for the festival.

興奮した群衆が色粉を空にまき出し、逮捕者まで出始める始末。

Some excited people started scatter color powders overhead and police started arresting especially wild people.

僕らは群衆にもみくちゃにされるし、雨は雹に変わるしで、観光を諦めてそうそうに引き上げました。ところが空気中に色粉が混じっていたため、バスに戻ってみると、玲子さんは上から下まで色粉を被ってどろどろに。僕はバックの中に隠れていたけれど、バックの隙間から入り込んだ色粉に伏せた耳の後ろが汚れてしまっていました（涙）。

We were pushed around by the crowd while the shower turned into hail. We gave up shightseeing and hurried back to our bus, where Reiko found herself from top to the shoes covered by color powders. Even I, who hided deep in her bag, had the back of my ears attacked by the color powders which invaded through a little space at the end of the bag zipper (Woo!).

ホテルに戻り、僕はシャワーを浴びなくてはならないし、れいこさんは一本しかなかった夏用ズボンとパーカーの洗濯とアイロン掛け。どろどろになったスニーカーと、パーカーの首元から背中に入り込んだ色粉で汚れたブラウスは、替えがあったので、汚れたまま日本に持ち帰りました。

As soon as we went back to our hotel, I had to take a shower while Reiko had to wash the only summer pants she brought for this travel and the parker and then to iron to dry them. She gave up washing her sneakers and the blouse under the parker, for she had anotehr pair of shoes and other blouses to wear.

思えば、初日から、飛行機が遅れて朝食は食べられないわ、にわか雨と雹に加えて、とんだお祭りで、観光はできない、全身ドロドロになるわ、ホテルではゴシゴシと手で何度もズボンを擦って洗濯したために、指がひりひりしてくるわ、僕だってシャワーを浴びなくちゃあならないわで、大変な一日でしたが、まあまあ、過ぎてしまえば、これも良い思い出（かな？）です。

Actually our first sightseeing day was terrible, with a terrible delay of the sightseeing flight without breakfast and then suddenshower and hail as well as a too excited festival commotion. Still looking back on what had happened later, all the unexpected accidents are after all good memories -- probably!

左：ネパールでの最初の夕食にはまだビールを飲むことができました。ネパールではどこでも見かけたビール、ゴルカです。ビールを飲んだのはここまでで、翌日からは胃の調子が悪くなって、アルコールはずっと控えました。

中央：ロキシという地酒です。焼酎のような味でした。

右：モモとオニオンリング（モモは前菜の扱いなのか、食事の最初に何度も出てきました）

left: For the first dinner in Nepal, we drank typical Nepal beer, Gorkha Beer. This beer seems to be quite popular in Nepal and we saw it in any restaurant. Yet this was our first and last beer in Nepal. On the next morning we started suffering from bad stomach.

middle: Native drink, Roksi. It tastes like rice liquer.

right: Momo and an onion ring. (Momo must be a popular Appetizer and was often served at the beginning of the dinner.)

ネパール料理（この日はまだカレー以外は食べることができました。そのうち、だんだん胃に応えてきて、食べられなくなった）

Nepal dinner. We tired everything except for curry. Yet on the next morning, we felt our stomach damaged by strong herbs.

食事は民族舞踊を見ながら進みました。

While we were dinning, they presented various local dances on the stage.

中央：デザートにはアイスクリーム。これもネパールでは定番なのか、よく出ました。

右：この日は満月で、ホテルに戻ったときに見ることができました。

middle: Ice cream for dessert. Ice cream seems very popular for dessert. They served ice cream very often at the end of the dinner, too.

right: It was a full moon when we went back to the hotel.
