松本、ふたつの紫陽花寺 (Two Hydrangea Temples in Matsumoto)

7月8日、松本の友人達と一緒に松本にあるふたつの紫陽花寺、法船寺と弘長寺を訪れました。この日、友人達は前もって仕事の都合を付けて休むことにしてくれていましたので、僕らも頑張って、長く続いていた雨から晴れをもたらしました。

On July 8, we visited two hydrangea temples in Matsumoto with our good friends in Matsumoto. Especially for this visit, our friends took a day off. To reward their efforts, we Po brothers did our best to bring sunshine for this day out of a long interval of rainy days.

この日は大糸線の電車で松本に向かいました。

This time we did not drive to Matsumoto but took a local train of the Ohito Line.

友人達とは南松本で合流し、そこからは友人の車でまず、法船寺に向かいました。

Then we met our friends at Minami Matsumoto station, from where we headed one of the hydrangea temples, Housenji Temple, in our friend's car.

久し振りの晴れということで、平日でも次々と車が入ってきていました。ただ、混雑するというほどではなく、ゆっくり見て回ることができました。また、雨だと足元が悪いだろうと思えるところはありましたが、晴れていたので、特に歩くのに困ることもありませんでした。

この日は気温が上がってきていましたが、高台にいたこともあり、木陰では涼しい風が吹いていました。

Partly because it was the first sunny day after a long interval of rainy days, there were cars coming into the parking lot one after another. Still the temple was not too croweded and we took our time to enjoy many colors of hydrangeas. Some places would have been muddy if it had been raining. Yet we did not have any trouble even in those places.

The temperature was raising but the temple was located in a high place where the wind was cool enough for walking in the tree shades.

ブルーの紫陽花の中にいると、僕は紫陽花の妖精になったような気分でした。

Surrounded by blue hydrangeas, I felt like a fairy of hydrangeas.

法船寺から、ほど近い弘長寺に移動。

弘長寺ではまずご本堂にご挨拶して、その背後にある山腹の紫陽花を見せて頂きます。本堂では燕が巣作りに忙しそうでした。

After Housenji Temple, we drove to Kouchouji nearby, where we first visited the main temple and then walked around in the hydrangea garden behind.

In the main temple, some sparrows were busy making their nests.

小さな池の中にお堂があり、その池には睡蓮も咲いていました。

There was a little pond with a little temple and many water lilies were blooming in the pond.

紫陽花を眺めながら山腹を登ります。このお寺ではすべての紫陽花に名札が付いていて、興味深かったです。

We climbed up the slope behind the main temple, observing many kinds of hydrangeas, each of which had its name card to help us understand its charms.

法船寺、弘長寺の紫陽花を見終えるとお昼時。松本市内方向に引き返し、並柳のCannery Rowというイタリアンのレストランでランチにしました。Cannery Rowと言われると、スタインベックの作品にも描かれた、カリフォルニア州モントレーの歴史的な通りを思い浮かべるので、なぜイタリアン？？？　と思ってしまいましたが、店内はフィレンツェの風景が描かれていたし、メインはスパゲッティとピザから選ぶようになっていました。

After enjoying beautiful hydrangeas a lot, we returned to the center of Matsumoto and stopped by a restaurant in Namiyanagi Street. It is an Italian restaurant but its name, Cannery Row, reminded us of the famous historical street in Montrey, California, which is dipicted in Steinbeck's story. We could not digest this discomfort, but their dishes were well digested!

スパゲッティかピザを頼むと、お惣菜と飲み物は食べ放題で、時間制限なくゆっくり過ごせました。

If you order a spaghetti or a piza, you can take any side dishes and drinks as much as you like. We could also stay there as long as we liked, too.

ランチにお喋りで、二時間半ほど費やして、友人に松本中央部まで送ってもらいました。パルコがあった場所にドンキホーテが入ったということだったので、立ち寄ってみました。僕らはドンキホーテは初めてで、ちょっとケバケバしくて目が疲れるけれど、安いなあと思うものもありました。

After having a good lunch and a happy conversation there, our friend drove us and the other friend to the center of Matsumoto. There we for the first time stepped into a Donkihote, which had just opened the other day in the place where Parco used to be. The inside of this Donkihote was so gaudy to our eye to make us tired easily but some of their goods were actually cheep.

電車の時間に合わせて松本駅に出ながら、暑いなあと話していたところ、駅の電光掲示板が32度でした。

紫陽花寺では比較的涼やかに過ごしましたが、いよいよ本格的な夏が始まったなと思いました。

We then headed to the station to catch the next possible train. We felt very warm walking to the station and it was very warm! We saw 32 degrees at the station electric bulletin board.

Though we had felt some cool winds at the two hydrangea temples, the summer had started at last!
