On September 10, the 7th day of the travel, the sunrise view from the hotel.

Our breakfast with an ocean view.

We headed to Capri by high-speed boat from the Naples pier.

We rode a boat to Grotta Azzura from Marina Piccola in Capri.

In front of Grotto Azzura, we had to wait for 45 minutes to take a small rowing boat to enter into the cave. Meanwhile some people had a sea sick.

In one of these small rowing boats, five of us, adults and me were expected to lie down flat. We first entered into a bow and another a little chubby woman came into a bow, covering over us. We did not have enough space in a bow together, not to mention for lying down flat. While we were struggling, the boatman hit our shoulders, elbows and knees, keeping shouting, “Low, low!!.” And when we were suffering from these unnatural positions, he started shouting us to pay two more Euros for his chips, together 4 Euros each, in order to let him row around inside the cave twice. We had been told to prepare 2 Euros for his chips before taking a row boat but did not have 4 Euros. Reiko suggested, therefore, “As we came all the way from Japan to see the case, how about giving us a little service?” Then he shouted back, “You came all the way from Japan and stint on 2 Euros. Taccagno!”  In a less stressful situation, I believe that Reiko would have been happy to pay extra10 Euros for us all to let him row around twice but at that moment, what we were concerned was only about our killing positions.  Then suddenly we were told to sit up to find ourselves in the cave.

Though we were told to sit up, we could not move ourselves much. We raised our heads and turned around to see the blue sea for a moment but could not observe it long. We raised our phone up to take some shots of the blue sea.

As soon as we came out of the cave, he started shouting, “Tip, Tip, Tip!!!” As we could not move soon enough to take out our tips in my pocket, he got irritated at us. Then we managed to hand his tips to him, he started shouting, “Out, one by one! Out! Out!!” The woman on us could not get out of the bow and so, we could not either. Yet, instead of helping her, the boatman just kept shouting, “Out!” At last, Reiko shouted back to him! “Don’t shout! We are trying. Give us a moment! Help her instead of shouting! ” Still, the boatman would not help her. We managed to stand up in the bow first and helped the woman up before landing ourselves at last.

One can go into the cave by walking down along this cliff to take a rowing boat. We do not know what kind of orders they have there but apparently there were certain kind of orders to go into the cave.

After landing, we climbed up the steps along the cliff up to the parking lot where we got a minibus for the sights.

Personally, I was happy enough to come back from the cave without falling into the sea. Unlike me, Reiko was quite angry at the mean and rough attitudes of the boatman, which she said completely ruined the fine view of the blue sea, and swore, “ I will never come back here.”

I am afraid that Capri is suffering from over-tourism.

We found a very long queue to take a chair lift to go up to Mt. Solaro, which was our next destination by minibus.

When we get off the chair lift, the chair was a little too high for us. Then two men helped us to land on safely from the both sides and one of them smiled us and said, “Hello. Thank you. See you!’” in Japanese. We were happily pleased, especially after the shameful behaviors of the boatman. Yet, later when we mentioned it to other members of the tour, they said that they did not get any help and had to jump down by themselves. I wonder why we were recognized as a nice Japanese???

The chair lift to go up was a pleasant experience but the one to go down was more entertaining with fine views.

As it took extra hours to wait for the boat riding and the chair lift riding, we had lunch past 2:30 p.m.

Partly because we were quite hungry, many people loved the spaghetti with mussels a lot. We do not like spaghetti so much, we only ate half of it. So we could save some appetite for the main dish, shrimp and squid fritters, which tasted similar to Japanese tempuras but more crispy.

left: Lemon sorbet. We had various types of lemon sorbet during this travel and we loved any of it. It cooled us down with fresh sour tastes and became our favorite.

At night, when we were having dinner, it started thundering continuously in the direction of Capri. As we had learned that the day before one could not go into Grotta Azzura, other tour members said that we were very lucky to enter it. Well, after all we had a hard time because we could enter it, though.
