南イタリアの休日4 (Southern Italian Holiday 4)

9月8日、旅行5日目、海辺に立つホテルから、美しい夜明けを眺めることができた。

On September 8, the 5th day of the travel, we observed the beautiful  sunrise from the hotel at the sea.

この日のメインイベントはミニバスによるアマルフィ海岸ドライブ。ホテルから反対側の端まで行き、そこにあるドライブインでトイレ休憩。お土産にはレモン関係が多い。

This day’s main event was a drive along Costa d’Amalfi. We first went to the opposite end of the coast, where the bus stopped in a drive-in for a bathroom break.

この日のランチは自由食だったので、僕らはムール貝のソテーとビールを頼んだ。一品で丁度良いサイズだった。

We were expected to have lunch during the free time and we ordered a dish of mussels with a bottle of beer. One dish was enough for us.

とても暑い日だからビールは美味しかったけれど、ビールを飲むと体が温まって、余計暑くなった。まだ一時間ほど残っていたので、大聖堂に入ることにした。四ユーロ。

It was such a hot day that a bottle of beer was welcome. Still when we drank it, we felt warmer than before. As we had one more hour to spend, we decided to enter the cathedral whose entrance fee was 4 Euros.

最初は遺跡のようなものから始まったが、段々内装が立派になり、最後に豪奢な教会内部が現れた。ひとつひとつをじっくり見ていたら時間が押して、集合場所に走って戻らなければならなかった。

At first we saw the relics of the old days. Then we moved into the decorated areas, the end of which was the gorgeous inside of the cathedral. Toward the end, we had to hurry to look around and then, ran back to the gathering spot.

ドライブを終えて、ホテルで一休みし、夕方になって気温が下がってから、ヴィエトリの街中に出かけた。

After the drive, we went back to the hotel for some rest. In the late afternoon, when the temperature went down a little, we decided to walk to the center of Vietri.

焼き物の街というだけあって、店の壁まで焼き物で飾られていた。小さな教会もこの街らしく、タイルで飾られていた。

As they call Vietri the town of ceramics, we found not only many ceramic stores but also ceramic wall tiles, which were nice. Their church was decorated with ceramics, too.

教会を見終えて出てきたとき、今回の旅で初めて雨が降り出した。とても暑かったので傘は持っていたけれど、通り雨のような気がして、近くの店に逃げ込んだ。そこで買い物をしているうちに、雨は止んでいた。

When we came out of the church, it started raining, for the first time during this travel. We had an umbrella to protect us from the sunshine, but we thought it would be just a shower and entered the nearby ceramic shop. While we were shopping there, the shower had stopped.
